Link Light Rail: The Beacon Hill Station is one block south of the event space.
From Downtown Seattle by Bus:
Metro Route 36
(Downtown Seattle, Pacific Medical Center, Beacon Hill, Jefferson Park, VA Hospital, Rainier Beach )
From I-5 Southbound:
Take the W SEATTLE FWY/COLUMBIAN WAY exit, exit number 163A.
From I-5 Northbound:
Take the WEST SEATTLE FREEWAY/COLUMBIAN WAY exit, exit number 163.
From I-90 Westbound:
Take the RAINIER AVE. SOUTH exit, exit number 3A.
Timed Solving Rounds: Solvers will complete 5 puzzles of increasing difficulty. There will be three puzzles in the morning, followed by a lunch break, and 2 additional puzzles in the afternoon. We will not have a final playoff this year.
Scoring & Penalties: We will be using American Crossword Puzzle tournament scoring. Points for each puzzle are generally awarded as follows:
Correct Words: 10 points for every correct word you enter (both across and down).
Time Bonus: 25 bonus points for each full minute you finish ahead of the suggested solution time.
Perfect Solution: A 150-point bonus is awarded if your entire puzzle is completely correct.
Divisions: Solvers can choose between two experience level “Seattle Drizzle” for rookies and casual solvers, and “Cats and Dogs” for solvers seeking a tougher challenge. Solvers will also be able to register for the online tournament if they cannot attend the live event. Paired solvers are welcome!
Fun Stuff! There will be a warm up puzzle provided by our generous sponsors, and we will sprinkle in smaller games and trivia throughout the day, with engaging activations between rounds. The day will end with an awards ceremony for the top 3 winners in each division.
What to Bring: Standard pencils (like Ticonderoga No. 2) or preferred mechanical pencils with 0.5mm or 0.7mm lead , plus a supply of erasers and a clipboard. Noise cancelling headphones are allowed. Snacks and a water bottle.
